Literacy
Information Literacy is defined as the set of skills needed to find, retrieve,
analyze and use information. When you attend an information literacy lecture,
you will learn about published information and how to find it. You will learn
research strategies for finding materials in the library and on the internet,
how to get the most from the library web page, how search engines work, how to
do online searches efficiently, how to determine the credibility of the
information that you receive, how to cite sources correctly, and an overview of
issues related to copyright and plagiarism. These lectures are offered to every
English 101 class, and to other classes on demand. For more information on
information literacy, see
Information Literacy Standards for Higher Education,
Association of College & Research Libraries.
