The Library.

The Basileiad Library at Manor College is open during the following hours:
                    Monday to Thursday - 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
                    Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
                    Saturday - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
These hours will change, for instance the library is open one hour later the week before final exams; and closed on some holidays. You can check the 'Hours of Operation' on the Library's web page.

Manor College Library has approximately 45,000 books and journals. The collection is divided into a reference collection (not for loan) and a loan collection. Items in the loan collection can be borrowed for a period of one month.

Journals may not be borrowed, but articles can be photocopied at a charge of 10 cents per page.

The Manor collection, like most colleges, is classified according to the Library of Congress (LC) classification system, so that books on similar subjects will be shelved together. This system is summarized here. Be warned that this is not a simple system, there are many alternative numbers available and the books you need will not always be together on the shelf. Always check the catalog each time you search.

Other libraries, especially high school libraries and public libraries, use the Dewey Decimal Classification system (DDC), which is summarized here.

There are 23 computers in the library. There is only one printer, for which there is no charge. For information about computer services on Manor's campus, go to 'Computer Support' at the top of the Manor web page.

You can locate specific items in the collection by using the Library’s catalog, which can be found by clicking on the word ‘Library’ on the Manor College web page. Then click on 'Find Books'. At this point you can enter your keyword or phrase and click on “keyword” to find out what the library holds. If you know the title, you can enter that and click on “title”. Play around with the different ways of searching, including 'Power' searching, which allows more options.

If you are accessing the catalog from home, click on the 'Remote access' link first, enter your Manor user id and password, and then continue as normal. Because of the firewall, you must have logged on with your own user id and password on campus before you can do this from home.

For each title that interests you, click on 'add to book bag'. Then print this page at the end of your search and take it to the shelves to help you find that book. Each aisle of books in the library has a card on the end, indicating the range of numbers found in that aisle.

If the book you find in the Manor catalog has a little book icon with an 'e' on it, that means it is an electronic book. You can click on the field indicated in the full record to directly access the book. Information on how to use netLibrary is on the next page.
